Military History


Schofield was allocated to the 21st Reinf. 11th Bn. AIF. He was then transferred to 20th Reinf 11th Bn.
Embarked Fremantle per ‘Clan McGillivray’ for UK 7.9.1916.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 4th Division, 11th Battalion, AIF, 20th Reinf.
Schofield disembarked at Plymouth 2.11.1916. He marched into the 3rd Training Bn. for training at Schofield proceeded overseas to France 17.12.1916 per SS ‘Golden Eagle’. He was taken on strength with 13th Coy. 17.1.1917. He fought in trenches on the Somme through the harsh winter of 1916-1917. The 11th Bn. fought in the advance towards the Hindenburg Line in April 1917 as the German's retreated. However, the German Army counter attacked at Louveral. Schofield was wounded in action at the Battle of Louveral 10.4.1917 with a GSW to his head. He was invalided to England per HS ‘St Dennis’. Schofield embarked at Boulogne for UK 20.4.1917. He was admitted to the Kitchener Military Hospital, Brighton, with severe GSW to the head 20.4.1917. Schofield was given furlough 7.6.1917 and returned to Hurdcott 22.6.1917. He was listed for early return to Australia invalided with a GSW to his head. He embarked from the UK per ‘Kenilworth Castle’ 12.3.1918,  disembarked at Durban South Africa and transferred to the HT ’Field Marshall’ for Australia 28.4.1918.
