Embarked Fremantle HMAT ‘Hororata A20 for Egypt 5.10.1915.

Roll Unit 9th Reinf, 16th Infantry Battalion, AIF.
Moore disembarked in Egypt with the 16th Bn. He was taken on Strength at Ismailia 8.1.1916. Moore was transferred from 16th Bn. to 48th Bn. as part of the re structuring of the AIF and in preparation for moving to the Western Front. Moore developed abscesses and was taken by the 12th Field Ambulance to hospital in the Canal Zone. He was then transferred to Hospital in Serapeum 31.3.1916. On recovery he was transported to Alexandria, joined with BEF and embarked for France 2.6.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 9.6.1916. The 48th Bn, was first engaged in battle on the Western Front at Pozieres in July- August 1916. Moore was reported Missing in the Field during this battle 8.8.1916. The Court of Enquiry convened 4.5.1917 determined that Moore was KIA in the trenches at Pozieres 8.8.1916. Red Cross files record that he was severely wounded by a shell, having his leg blown off. He died in his trench (AWM Red Cross File). Moore had no known Grave (West Australian Newspaper  14.6.1917). He is commemorated at Villers-Bretonneux War Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France.

Notes Australian War Memorial Embarkation Records have his surname name incorrectly recorded as Moon.
The West Australian Newspaper reported a tragic toll in the Guildford Community in the Roll of Honour/ Casualty Lists (26.9.1916) W.H. Minnett missing, S.J. Minnett missing, J.W.B.H. Moore missing.
