Embarked Fremantle per ‘Miltiades’ 7.8.1916 for UK.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 4th Reinforcement, 16th Battalion.
Barlow disembarked with the 16th Battalion at Plymouth 25.9.1916. He contracted mumps and was transferred to Codford Hospital 14.10.1916. He was transferred to Bulford Hospital 3.11.1916. Barlow marched out from Codford with 4th Training Battalion for overseas. He embarked per SS ‘Clementine’ for France 21.12.1916. The 16th Battalion spent a harsh winter in the trenches on the Somme. Barlow reported sick and was admitted to Hospital 15.7.1917. He rejoined his unit 25.7.1917. He was again admitted to hospital this time with scabies 23.8.1917. Barlow rejoined his unit on 7.9.1917 The 16th Battalion advanced towards the Hindenburg Line in summer and autumn of 1917. Barlow was wounded in action with a Shrapnel wound to his neck and ear 26.9.1917. He was invalided to England per Hospital Ship to Cambridge Military Hospital, Aldershot, England 4.10.1917. On discharge from hospital he took furlough whilst at Sutton Veny 22-25.10.1917. Barlow marched in from furlough to Sutton Veny. He was then transferred to the Overseas Training Brigade. In January 1918, he proceeded overseas to France from Southampton 16.1.1918. Barlow was appointed Driver with 16th Battalion. 16.11.1918. Following Armistice Barlow embarked from France for England 31.3.1919, for demobilisation and return to Australia.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 18.7.1919.
Discharged 4.9.1919.

Notes Barlow had 2 brothers who served in WW1- Harold George Barlow (SN 3775) and Thomas Richard Barlow KIA (SN 166).
