Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Borda’ 29.6.1917 for England.

Roll Unit 10th Reinforcement. 51st Battalion.
Craig disembarked at Plymouth with the 10th Reinforcement of the 51st Battalion 25.8.1917. He marched in to the 13th Training Battalion at Codford 26.8.1917. After a period of intensive training, he proceeded overseas to France 16.1.1918. Craig was taken on strength with 51st Battalion in France. His unit was part of the Allied action to repulse the German advances in April 1918. Craig was wounded in action at Villers-Bretonneux. He sustained a severe gun shot wound to his right foot 24.4.1918. He was transferred to England per Hospital Ship ‘Aberdonian’ 12.5.1918. Craig had the second toe of his right foot amputated at Reading War Hospital. He was listed for early return to Australia as an invalid .
