Embarked Fremantle per HT ‘Suevic 21.7.1916.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 18th Reinforcements, 11th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force.
Brown disembarked with the 11th Battalion at Plymouth 21.7.1916. He marched in to Perham Downs with the 3rd Training Battalion as Private. He proceeded overseas to France 5.9.1916 and joined ‘C’ Company as Acting Sergeant 17.9.1916. Brown reverted to ranks on joining the Battalion in the Field 8.9.1916. The 11th Battalion manned the Trenches near Ypres before marching to the Somme for winter. The winter months were particularly harsh in 196-17.Brown was admitted to hospital sick in the Field 29.11.1916. He rejoined the Battalion 27.1.1917. Brown was wounded in Field on the Somme, with a gunshot wound to left forearm 26.2.1917. He embarked at Boulogne, France for England per Hospital Ship ‘Princess Elizabeth’ 9.3.1917 and was admitted to the Military Hospital at Eastbourne 9.3.1917. He was discharged to the Battalion Depot at Weymouth 7.6.1917. Brown was listed for early return to Australia for a ‘change’.
