Embarked Fremantle per HMAT A30 ‘Borda’ 29.6.1917.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 20th Reinforcement 28th Battalion.
Broad disembarked with the 28th Battalion 20th Reinforcement at Plymouth, UK 25.8.1917. They marched in to Rollestone to the 16th Training Battalion. The 28th Battalion were transferred to Fovant 18.11.1917. Broad proceeded overseas to France with 16th Battalion 23.1.1918. The 16th Battalion fought at Bullecourt in April 1917 and at Hamel in June 1917.  The 28th Fought on a line east of Morlancourt on the night of 14.6.1918 and sustained 14 men wounded. They were heavily bombarded the next morning. Broad was wounded in action with a grenade wound to his chin 15.6.1918. He was admitted to Hospital 18.6.1918 and rejoined his unit in 20.7.1918. Broad was appointed Lance Corporal 30.10.1918. He marched out of France for demobilization and return to Australia.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 16.8.1919.
Discharged 16.9.1919.
