Embarked Fremantle per ‘HMAT ‘Miltiades’ for England  29.1.1917.
Roll Rank Private
Roll Unit 24th Reinf, 16th Battalion, AIF.
Snook disembarked at Devonport, England  27.3.1917, He marched in to the 4th Training Bn. at Codford. Snook proceded overseas to France via Southampton 9.7.1917, after just over 3 months training. He was taken on strength with the 16th Bn. 27.7.1917. The 16th Bn. took part in their first major battle in France at Pozieres from July to September 1917 (AWM 16th Bn) (Western Argus 11.9.1917 p36), Snooks was wounded in action at Pozieres 6.8.1917. He received a gunshot wound to his left arm and was transferred by the 4th Field Ambulance to the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station. From here Snook was transferred to the 2 Canadian General Hospital and transferred by hospital ship to England 11.8.1917. In England Snook was admitted to the Reading War Hospital 16.8.1917. As he recovered, he was transferred to the 3rd Auxilliary Hospital, then listed for return to Australia as an invalid with GSW to his left arm.
Embarked for Australia per HT ‘Berrima’ A35, 31.10.1918.
Returned/ Disembarked Fremantle 22.12.1918 (Western Argus 25.12.1917 p50)
Final Rank Private 16th Bn. AIF.
Medical Condition Invalided with GSW to left forearm.
Awards and Medals British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Notes Snook was killed in an automobile accident at Cunderdin 28.1.1938 age 46 years. He farmed at ‘Mobe Farm’ Cunderdin and left a wife, Nellie and three children Ronald, Cliffoird and Valentine (Daily News 29.1.1938) (Beverley Times 4.2.1938).
