Military History

Officers’ Training School at Roseville NSW as A/Cpl. 22.8.1916. Hill was promoted to A/Sgt 3.10.1916- 1.2.1917. He worked for several months as an instructor at the Wireless, Telegraphy and Signallers School at Moore Park Engineering Depot, Roseville, NSW before being transferred back to WA to Blackboy Hill 14.7.1917. Hill was transferred to the 13th Reinft. Pioneer Bn. and promoted to 2nd Lieut. in WA.
Embarked Albany per SS ‘Port Darwin’ 8.5.1918.

Hill disembarked at Southampton 16.7.1918 and marched in to Sutton Veny. He was transferred to the AIF Educational School, Cambridge, for a Course of Instruction 7.10.1918. He marched out to the Australian HQ  Administration in London 30.10.1918. Hill marched out to the Training School at Brightlingsea 4.11.1918 and was transferred to the  General List– Educational Services  30.10.1918. Hill was promoted to Lieut. 23.1.1919 and marched out to Tidworth 31.1.1919. He was attached to the Demobilised Dept. in  at Australian HQ London  4.2.1919. Hill was detached for duty in Egypt and embarked  per HT ‘Canberra’. He disembarked at Port Said  and was taken on strength as Deputy Assistant Director of Education AIF 14.3.1919, where he was responsible for the Organisation and Adminstration of  Education to 16,000-17,000 troops in Egypt and Palestine. Hill was listed for return to Australia and embarked at Kantara per HT 'Delta'  2.8.1919.
