Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Hororata’ A20 for Egypt 5.10.1915.

Roll Unit 11th Battalion, 9th Reinf, AIF.
Weetman disembarked Suez. He joined the 11th Battalion 9th Reinf at Tel-el Kebir 7.11.15. Weetman was transferred from 9th Reinf. to ‘B’ Coy 11th Battalion 7.1.1916. In line with the reorganisation of the AIF and its ‘doubling’ of numbers, new battalions were created. The 51st Battalion was created in March 1916, it was composed of experienced soldiers from Gallipoli and new recruits. Weetman was transferred to the 51st Battalion at Zietoun, Egypt 29.2.1916. He entrained to Alexandria joined the BEF and embarked per HMT ‘Ivernia’ for France 5.6.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 12.6.1916 and moved to the trenches a fortnight later. Weetman was wounded in action with a GSW to his left side 5.7.1916. He was taken by the 13th Field Ambulance to the 25th General Hospital 5.7.1916, then to 1st Convalescent Depot Boulogne, France 6.7.1916. He rejoined his Unit 23.7.1916 just prior to the Battle of Mouquet August 1917. Weetman was reported missing in action 15.8.1916. he was later reported to be a POW List No.188, 27.9.1916. He was captured at Mouquet Farm on the Somme 15.8.1916. Initially held at Cambrai 16.9.1916, he was transferred to Dulmen Camp 21.9.1916. Weetman received a GSW/ shrapnel wound to his neck at Mouquet Farm. He was repatriated to the UK 3.12.1918. He marched from Australian HQ in London to Weymouth for return to Australia 7.1.1919.

Notes His Father was resident Magistrate of the licensing Curts in the Murchison. His brother Sgt. Ernest George Weetman, served with the 51st Bn. and and was KIA at Amiens 16.4.1918.
