Military History


Warn enlisted for Home Service 29.9.1916 and given SN 2965. He was discharged as permanently unfit with rheumatism 27.9.1916. He re enlisted a second time 9.1.1917 with the 3rd Railways Operations Coy. and given a new service number SN 1069.

Warn disembarked at Devonport, UK 27.3.1917. He marched in to St. Lucia Barracks, Australian Railways Operation Depot at Borden. After a period of training, he proceeded overseas to France from Southampton 11.5.1917. Warn became ill and was taken to the 46th Casualty Clearing Station, then was evacuated to England and was admitted to hospital (hydrocele) 23.6.1917.  On recovery, Warn was transferred as Sapper to 5th Australian Broad Gauge Rail Operations Coy. (ABGROC) 16.8.1917 and marched into the Railways Operation Division (ROD) in France. He took leave in England and was admitted to Brook War Hospital, Woolwich, sick with influenza and a debility 11.7.1918. Warn transferred to the 3rd Auxiliary Hospital Dartford 2.8.1918. He marched in to No. 2 Command Depot at Weymouth 30.8.1918 and was listed for early return to Australia as an invalid with chronic rheumatism
