Embarked Fremantle per HMAT A68 ‘Anchises’ for Egypt 2.9.1915.

Roll Unit 7th Brigade, 28th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Reinf.
Terry disembarked in Egypt with the 28th Bn. After a short period of training, he entrained to Alexandria, joined the MEF and embarked for Gallipoli 17.10.1915. The 28th Bn. reinforced the war weary ANZAC troops at Gallipoli (AWM 28th Bn). The 28th Bn. were evacuated from Gallipoli to Mudros and then from Mudros to Alexandria 10.1.1916. The AIF reorganized and restructured after Gallipoli, in preparation for embarkation to the Western Front. Terry entrained to Alexandria, joined the BEF and embarked for France 16.3.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 21.3.1916. The first major battle that the 28th Bn. fought was at Pozieres in July 1916. Terry was killed by machine gun fire at the barbed wire that obstructed his path during this battle (AWM Red Cross File). He is recorded in this file as having been KIA at Pozieres 28.7.1916 (AWM Red Cross Files). This date varies from official documentation which states his death as 29.7.1916. His burial site was not located. Terry is commemorated at the Villers-Bretonneux War Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France.

Notes Terry was one of three brothers who enlisted in WW1, Donald (2002) and Norman (SN 441/Lieut) both returned.
