Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Ascanius’ A11 for Egypt 29.6.1915.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 7th Infantry Brigade, 28th Battalion, AIF.
Sholl disembarked in Egypt. After two months of training, the 28th Bn prepared for overseas departure. Sholl marched in to Alexandria, joined the MEF and embarked for Gallipoli per HT ‘Ivernia’ 5.9.1915. He was wounded in action  and admitted to the 13th Casualty Clearing Station with a crushed leg and concussion 4.11.1915. Sholl returned to duty 13.11.1915. Sholl was hospitalised with an injury to his knee 26.11.1915. He was invalided to HS ‘Oxfordshire’ 2.12.1915 and transported to hospital at Heliopolis 5.12.1915. Sholl returned to duty 7.1.1916. He was briefly transferred to another Unit at Ghezireh 5.2.1916 and returned to his own Unit 6.12.1916. Sholl and his Bn. entrained to Alexandria, joined the BEF and embarked for France 16.3.1916. Sholl disembarked at Marseilles 21.3.1916. Soon after arriving at base depot he was diagnosed with Mumps 7.4.1916. He was hospitalised at the 7th General Hospital at St Omar, Havre 7.4.1916. Sholl returned to duty 1.5.1915. He fought with the 28th Bn. at their first major action at Pozieres in July 1916. Sholl was wounded in action 29.7.1916 receiving a severe GSW to the buttock and humerus with compound fractures. He was transferred per HS ‘Dieppe’ to East Leeds War Hospital, England. He was transferred to the 2nd Auxiliary Hospital at Southall and then given 2 weeks furlough. Sholl marched in to Weymouth for early return to Australia as an invalid.
