Embarked Fremantle per RMS ‘Mongolia’ for Egypt 22.11.1915.

Roll Unit 12th Reinf, 10th Light Horse Regiment.
Read disembarked in Egypt. He was hospitalized with the 2nd Australian General Hospital (AGH) with tonsillitis 26.1.1916. He was discharged 31.1.1916  to the 2nd Auxilliary Hospital Unit at Cairo. He was taken on strength with 3rd Reserve Regimen of the 10th Light Horse. Read was admitted to the 3rd Australian General Hospital at Heliopolis with deafness 7.4.1916 and  was transferred to the 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital at Heliopolis. He was again transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital 18.4.1916. With little improvement in his condition, he was listed for return to Australia, for discharge with deafness and chronic otitis media in right ear. It is not possible to ascertain from records if he saw active service.
