On the morning of the 6th August led counter attacks against that portion of Leanne’s Trench that the enemy had capture. These attacks had to be launched and led across the open under heavy shrapnel, machine gun and rifle fire at close range. The first led by Lieut. Procter (sic) got to the trench but failed to protect it, all but three o four men were killed or wounded…… the dash and gallant leading of these two officers was most remarkable and resulted in the retention of the work and complete discomfiture of the enemy.
