Enlisted with 10th Reinforcements 10th Light Horse with SN. 1332.
Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Themistocles’ for Egypt 13.10.1915

King disembarked with his Regiment in Egypt. They marched out to Serapeum ex Heliopolis 26.2.1916. King was admitted to Hospital in Cairo with Influenza and Eczema 24.6.1916 (Reported ill West Australian Newpaper 12.6.1916 ). He was invalided to Australia for rest, with eczema on both legs.
He embarked for return to Australia per ‘Port Sydney’ from Egypt 27.6.1916, and disembarked at Fremantle 7.8.1916. King was discharged 7.8.1916 medically unfit for service in Egypt. King re -enlisted 26.10.1916 with the Artillery and was transferred to Maribyrnong, Vic. for training. He embarked from Melbourne per RMS ‘Orontes’ 23.12.1916 with a new Service Number 31672 with a Roll Rank of driver in the 9th Reinforcements 10th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB). King disembarked with his Artillery Unit at Plymouth and marched in to the No. 3 Details Camp at Parkhouse 8.2.1917. He was mustered as a Gunner at Bedford 6.4.1917 and proceeded overseas to France 1.9.1917. He transferred to the 2nd Division Ammunition Column 8.9.1917. King then transferred to the 4th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) 1.9.1917. King was admitted sick to Hospital in France with (infection of hair follicles) 3.10.1917. On discharge from hospital, he was detached to Signallers School 21.1.1918. He returned to his Unit in the field. King was wounded in action (gassed) 21.3.1918 at Flanders. He was taken to the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station. He was permanently detached to 5th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) 4.3.1919. King marched in to Sutton Veny from France 7.5.1919, for return to Australia.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 27.9.1919.
Discharged 5.11.1919.
