Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Anchises’ A68 for 2.9.1915

Kellow disembarked in Egypt with the 16th Battalion 15.10 1915. He entrained to Alexandria to join his Unit and embarked for Gallipoli with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF) 23.10.1915. He disembarked Mudros and was taken on strength with unit at Mudros on Lemnos Island 23.10.1915. Following the evacuation from Gallipoli, Kellow was transferred to Alexandria per HT ‘Ascanius’ 31.12.1915.
He enlisted with British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and embarked at Alexandria for France 21.6.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles and was taken on strength with the unit. The 16th Battalion fought on the British offensive on the Somme at Mouquet Farm in August 1916. Kellow was reported missing 31.8.1916. Later that day, he was recovered seriously injured, having been wounded in action in the Field with gunshot wounds- penetrating his leg and chest 31.8.1916. He was taken by the 4th Field Ambulance to the 49th Casualty Clearing Station 31.8.1916. Kellow was transferred to 4th General Hospital 5.9.1916, then transferred as an invalid by Hospital Ship (HS) ‘Asturias’ to London. He was admitted to the 3rd London General Hospital 16.10.1916. His left leg was amputated 16.10.1916. Kellow was listed for early return to Australia as an invalid.

Notes Kellow died 19.12.1947. He lived post war at 45 Helena Street, Guildford WA. His name was not included in AWM Embarkation List.
