Embarked Fremantle per SS ‘Ormonde’ to Egypt. 13.3.1918.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit 3rd Reinf. of the 10th Light Horse.
Hamersley was hospitalized with a septic throat on board the ‘Ormonde’ 1.4.1918. He disembarked with the 33rd Reinforcements of the 10th Light Horse at Port Said and marched in to the Reinf. Camp. 4.4.1918. He transferred to 3rd  Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron 6.7.1918 and served in Moascar and Jerusalem. Hamersley became ill with Malaria 7.11.1918, at times his condition was severe. (West Australian Newspaper 15.10.1918). He was admitted to hospital 8 further times with malaria in the next 5 months. He marched out for early return to Australia as an invalid with malaria.
Embarked Port Said for Australia per ‘Dorset’ 22.4.1919.
Returned/Disembarked 29.5.1919.
Discharged 20.8.1919.
Final Rank. Trooper, 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron.
Medical Condition Invalided.
Awards and Medals British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Notes Herbert (Herb) married Mary Julia nee Harper in 1932, age 32. They had issue of no children. He died in 1978.
