Military History

Hamerlsey embarked at Fremantle for England per HMAT 'Orsova' 25.7.1915. She disembarked in London with the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) and was listed to work at Harefield Hospital in the Convalscence Unit. She was detached for duty at Tooting Military Hospital 30.10.1915. In April 1917 she proceeded overseas to France 29.4 1917. She returned to England and worked in the ship’s hospital on Transport Duty to Australia 7.1.1918. Hamersley returned to England and worked at Southall and Weymouth Hospitals in 1918. She took leave without pay for family reasons 23.7.1919 and returned to Australia. Records show that Hamersley herself had health problems and she was recorded as having been invalided home with albuminuria.
Embarked for Australia per ‘Takada’ 18.7.1919 -
Disembarked Fremantle 29.8.1919.
Discharged 11.10.1919.
Final Rank Nursing Sister.
Medical Condition Invalided Health problem, Albuminuria – protein in urine.

Notes Hamersley is listed on the AWM site as Hammersley (2 ‘m’s). She married Frank Septimus Maley of Three Springs 8.2.1921. (West Australian Newspaper 12.2.1921) and died in Hamersley was the daughter of Hugh Hamersley by his second marriage to Mary (Maud) nee Jones. Born  in Guildford in 1884, she and her family lived at 'Fairfield' Walkaway WA. The family worked 'Pyrton' in Caversham(a property of her grandfather) ( Erikson. R.  1988)
