Military History


Bailey enlisted with the 11th Battalion the first recruitment from WA in WW1.
Embarked Fremantle per ‘Ascanius’ 2.11.1914.
Roll Rank Private.
Roll Unit ‘C’ Squadron, 11th Infantry Battalion.
Bailey disembarked in Egypt in December 1914 and continued training there until December. He entrained with his Battalion to Alexandria, joined the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and embarked for Gallipoli.
AWM records show Bailey was KIA on April 2nd, hit by bullet whilst landing at Anzac Cove. He was reported killed instantly and buried on the beach 25.4.1915. He was reinterred in the Cemetery at Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey. His date of death was confirmed and corrected by the Comrades Association to 15.4.1915. He is commemorated at Lone Pine Memorial, Cannakkale Province, Turkey.
