Embarked Fremantle per ‘Medic’ for Egypt.18.1.1916

Roll Unit 28th Battalion, 7th Reinf.
Walter disembarked at Alexandria 16.2.1916 Four weeks later he joined the BEF at Alexandria, and embarked for France. Per ‘Orana’ 21.3.1916. He disembarked at Marseilles 27.1.1916. Walter was taken on strength in France 9.6.1916. The 28th Battalion fought in their first major battle at Pozieres in July- August 1917 . Walter was wounded in action with a severe shell wound to both legs and his left arm. He was transferred per HS ‘Cambria’ to England and admitted to the 2nd General Western Hospital at Manchester 9.8.1916. Walter was discharged to Perham Downs 20.11.1916. He proceeded overseas to France via Folkestone per HMT ‘Victoria’ 3.2.1917. Rejoined unit in France 3.2.1917 and rejoined his Unit 8.2.1917. Walter was wounded in action (2nd time) near Broodseinde, France. He received a GSW to his chest 1.10.1917. He was taken to the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station and then by train to the 26th General Hospital at Etaples 4.10.1917. Walter was evacuated to England per HS ‘Ville de Liege’ and admitted to the Central Military Hospital at Chatham 22.10.1917. He was transferred to the 3rd Auxiliary Hospital at Dartford, Walter was sent to the 2nd Command Depot and listed for early return to Australia as an invalid.
Embarked England per HT ‘Matatua’ D13 for Australia 17.6.1918.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 8.8.1918.
Discharged 4.9.1918.
Final Rank Private, 28th Battalion, AIF.
Medical Condition Invalided GSW to chest.
Awards and Medals 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Notes Walter was engaged to Miss Doreen Williams of 'Astley', Bridgetown  in 1920 ( West Australian Newspaper 17.11.19120 p7). He married Doreen 1922 (Bunbury Herald 7.2.1922 p2)
