Shenton was appointed Acting Cpl. whilst training in Melbourne and 'Voyage Only' Sgt prior to embarkation 10.5.1917.
Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Clan McGillivray’ A46 for Egypt 10.5.1917.

The Engineering Reinf. disembarked at Plymouth and marched in to the No.1 and 2 Details Camp at Parkhouse 29.7.1917. Shenton reverted to Sapper on joining the Engineering Training Depot at Brightlingsea, Essex and was then appointed Cpl. 3.8.1917. He reverted to Acting/Cpl on joining the SME Class at Brightlingsea 11.9.1917. He proceeded overseas to France via Southampton as Sapper 22.12.1917. Shenton was transferred to the 1st Army Troop Coy. at Havre 1.1.1918. He was admitted sick to Hospital 4.5.1918- 6.5.1918. Shenton was again admitted to hospital 14.6.1918-26.6.1918 with Influenza. He was sent to the 1st Convalescence Station to 20.12.1918 and a Convalescent Depot 10.7.1918. He marched in to his Unit 1.9.1918. Shenton was granted 2 weeks leave. He marched in to his unit in Havre 6.4.1919 and marched out for England 9.4.1919 for return to England.
Embarked for Australia per HT ‘Somali’ 1.6.1919.
Returned/Disembarked 8.7.1919.
Discharged 7.8.1919.
Final Rank Sapper, 1st Army Troops Engineers.
