Roll Unit 68th Royal Field Artillery.
Porter was pursuing studies studying at University College London when war was declared. He joined an Officer Training Corps with the Royal Artillery (DN 27.1.1913). Porter received his Commission as Lieut. to 68th Battery Royal Field Artillery, Farnborough (Kalgoorlie Miner 23.1.1913). He fought for 6 months in France at Mons before joining the Royal Flying Corps. He was Porter was listed as ‘missing since December 1915’ and later reported KIA in France (Kalgoorlie Miner 13.1.1916). He was later reported as a POW who died of wounds (WAN 4.3.1916).
AWM Records describe him as killed in aerial action ‘shot down in aero combat over France’. All occupants of the plane were buried with full military honours (Kalgoorlie Miner M 14.4.1916). He was flying with observer Henry John Kirkbride he was when shot down.
Porter was buried at Achiet-le-Grand, Communal Cemetery Extension, Achiet-le-Grand, Arras, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
