On 21.11.1915 the 16th Bn. left Perth for Broadmeadows, Victoria for further training.
Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Ceramic’ A40 for Egypt 22.12.1914.

Roll Unit ‘D’ Coy, 16th Battalion, AIF
Mountain left Melbourne with the 16th Bn. and arrived at Albany on 27.11.1916. He disembarked at Alexandria 3.2.1915 and entrained for Heliopolis. The 16th Bn. underwent a period of intensive training. They entrained to Alexandria, joined the MEF and embarked for Gallipoli. The 16th Bn. landed at Gallipoli 25.4.1915. The Bn. dug in at Pope’s Hill and remained there for 5 days under intense fire (16th Bn. AIF Gallipoli -Anzac site). Mountain was listed KIA 25th -28th April 1915. His death was finally recorded as KIA 27.4.1915. No burial site or body was recovered. Mountain is Commemorated at Lone Pine Memorial (panel 50), Gallipoli Peninsula, Cannakkale Province, Turkey.

Notes Mountain enlisted with the 88th Infantry as a Private and was appointed to 2nd Lieut. when 22 years of age in 1903 (Daily News 5.5.1919)
Mountain was known as Torres by his family (Geraldton Guardian and Express 22.3.1934)
Mountain had a brother Private (SN 3546) Hubert Victor who served in the 10th Light Horse Regt. and returned
