Embarked Fremantle per ‘Uganda’ A66 for England 20.9.1916.

Roll Unit 51st Infantry Battalion, 5th Reinf, AIF
Milhinch disembarked with his unit at Plymouth 8.917. He was hospitalised with influenza. On recovery, he was discharged from hospital and proceeded overseas to France 9.5.1917. The 51st Bn. fought at Mouquet Farm from August to September. Milhinch was wounded with a GSW to his neck (reported in West Australian Newspaper 7.7.1917). He rejoined his unit from hospital 20.10.1917 and fought through the harsh winter of 1916-17 on the Somme in the trenches. He fought with the 51st Bn. at Polygon Wood in September 1917. Milhinch was severely wounded in action in Belgium (2nd time) 13.10.1917 with a SW and compound fractures to face and thigh. He died of wounds at 17th Casualty Clearing Station, Belgium 15.10.1917. (West Australian Newspaper 19.10.1917 )previously reported wounded. Milhinch was buried Lijssenthoek Cemetery. Plot 21, Row 3, Grave 13. Located 1 ¾ miles SW of Poperinghe, Belgium.

Medical Condition Deceased, died of wounds.

Notes Originally Milhinch was from SA. His brother lived in Northam.
Milhinch’s wife later moved to ‘Eden Hill’, Whitfield Street, West Guildford, WA then back to SA
