Embarked Fremantle per HMAT A28 ‘Miltiades’ for England 29.1.1917.

Roll Unit 24th Reinforcement, 11th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force.
Bell disembarked at Devonport with the 11th Battalion, 24th Reinforcement 27.3.1917. He marched in to the 3rd Training Battalion at Durrington. Bell proceeded overseas to France 30.7.1917. He was taken on strength with 28th Battalion 21.8.1917 and fought in the trenches on the Somme. Bell was KIA in the Field by a shell at Linnecorbe Woods, Ypres, Belgium 20.9.1917 (Australian War Memorial Red Cross files). He was buried in the field. His remains were later re-interred to Hooge Crater Cemetery (112. Part 1 A-L. Row B) Zillebeke, Belgium (2 miles East of Ypres). The memorial site is now recorded as Hooge Crater Cemetery. Passchendaele, West Vlaanderen, Flanders, Belgium.
