Maw enlisted for the Army when under the age of 21 years of age and received parental permission. He enlisted with the Engineering Reinf. 2nd MD. He was allocated to No. 4 Equitation Training School Rosehill 5.11.1917- 20.12.1917.
Embarked Sydney per HMAT ‘Runic’ A54 for England 22.3.1918.

Roll Unit 1st Army Troop Coy. Australian Engineers.
Maw disembarked in London 24.5.1918. He marched in to the Engineering Details No.3 Camp at Parkhouse 24.5.1918. He was then sent to Brightling on Sea. Maw proceeded overseas to France 4.10.1918. He was transferred to the 1st Army Troops Company, Australian Engineers from the Reinf. 20.10.1918. Following cessation of hostilities, he proceeded to England 10.2.1919. Maw was granted leave 11.3.1919 – 3.11.1919 to attend an Engineering Course at Gower St. London with pay subsistence of 13 pounds 7 shillings. He was listed for return to Australia.
Embarked for Australia per HT ‘Aeneus’ 22.11.1919.
Returned/Disembarked 1.1.1920.
Discharged 19.3.1920.
