Embarked Fremantle per RMS ‘Mongolia’ for Egypt 22.11.1915.

Roll Unit 3rd Light Horse Brigade, 10th Light Horse Regiment, 12th Reinf.
Lyons disembarked in Egypt with the 10th Light Horse Regiment. He was posted to the 24th Base Depot at Heliopolis 10.9.1915. Lyons was transferred to the 3rd Depot Squad 4.11.1915. His Regt. trained intensively for 3 months then marched in to Serapeum 26.2.1916. He was taken on strength with his Regiment 9.9.1916. His Regt. fought at the Battle of Romani and Beersheba. Lyons was hospitalised as sick 14.10.1916 and returned to duty 19.20 1916. He was reported as sick and hospitalised with pyrexia (fever of unknown origin) 9.6.1917 and returned to duty 22.6.1917. He was discharged to Moascar ex Com Depot and taken on strength 5.9.1917. Lyons was attached to the Aust Base Post Office 9.9.1917 and transferred to Australian Army Postal Corps in Cairo 26.6.1918. In July he became an Orderly with the Australian Army Postal Services and was attached for duty at Kantara 29.7.1918. He had several transfers of positions within the Dept until 23.3.1919, when he was demobilised.
Embarked Kantara for return to Australia per ‘Oxfordshire’ 10.7.1919.
Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 4.8.1919.
Discharged 9.9.1919.
Medical Condition NK (some reference to suffering debility 28.9.1918)

Awards and Medals 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.
