Embarked Fremantle per HMAT ‘Ascanius’ A11 for Egypt 29.6.1915.

Lukin disembarked in Egypt with his Battalion. He became ill and was admitted to Hospital 22.7.1915. Lukin was discharged from Hospital 27.7.1915. He embarked at Alexandria with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF) for Gallipoli 4.9.1915. Lukin became ill with diarrhoea at Gallipoli and was taken to the 7th Field Ambulance Station 22.10.1915. He was subsequently diagnosed with Dysentery 22.10.1915 and then Enteritis. Lukin was transferred by Hospital Ship (HS) ‘Rewa’ 2.11.1915 to St. Andrew’s Hospital Malta. From Malta he was transferred per HS ‘Glenart Castle’ to Mudros for transport to England as an invalid 18.11.1915. Lukin embarked for England per HS ‘Aquitanis’ 24.11.1915. On arrival in England, he was transferred to the County of London War Hospital, Epsom 4.12.1915. He was discharged to Monte Video, Weymouth then moved to Perham Downs 28.6.16. After a period of intensive training, he proceeded overseas to France 9.8.1916. He marched into Etaples 11.8.1916.
Lukin reinforced his Battalion at Pozieres 24.8.1916. He was promoted to L/Corporal 4.10.1916. In the battle east of Flers in November 1916, he was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his right arm and left side 3-6.11.1916. Lukin was admitted to Casualty Clearing Station 5.11.1916 then taken to the Ambulance Transfer Station 5.11.1916. He embarked for England as invalid 9.11.1916 and was admitted to the Military Hospital at Boscombe 10.11.1916. On recovery, he was transferred to the 1st Auxiliary Hospital 12.12.1916 then discharged to furlough 15.12.1916. He reported to Perham Downs 2.1.1917 and joined the Overseas Training Unit. Three weeks later he marched out for embarkation to France per ‘Princess Clementine’ 24.1.1917. He was admitted to the Base Depot at Etaples 25.1.1917.
He rejoined his Battalion in France 5.2.1917. The 28th Battalion were engaged in many significant campaigns including Bullecourt, Menin Road and Passchendaele. Lukin was sent to the Army Rest Camp 13.8.1917. He rejoined his Unit 20.8.1917. Leave was granted to go to England 7.9.1917. Promoted to Temp/Corporal 29.9.1917. He was promoted to Corporal 6.10.1917. During a winter of trench warfare, in harsh conditions, Lukin became ill and was admitted to Sutton Veny Hospital with Bronchitis on 10.1.1918. He was discharged 16.1.1918. Lukin proceeded back to France 4.3.1918 and joined his Unit 7.3.1918. He rejoined his Battalion in the Field 9.3.1918. During the German Spring Offensive in June 1918, Lukin received a  wound to his wrist (while at Morlancourt) and when being taken back to the First Aid Post, was killed by enemy fire (AWM Red Cross File).His death is recorded as KIA by machine gun bullet at Morlancourt during attack at edge of Bray on Corbie Rd., France 10.6.1918 (AWM Red Cross File). Lukin was initially buried on site in a shell hole with 4 other soldiers. He was re interred to Beacon Cemetery, Sailly-Laurette, Bray-sur-Somme, Picardie, France. Plot 2. Row E. Grave 3.
