Embarked Melbourne per HMAT ‘Ceramic’ A40 for Egypt 22.12.1914.

Roll Unit 16th Infantry Battalion, Australian Imperial Force (AIF).
Larkin disembarked at Suez. After a brief period of intensive training, he entrained to Alexandria and embarked with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (MEF) for Gallipoli. The 16th Battalion landed at Gallipoli 25.4.1915. This Battalion fought at ‘Bloody Angle’ and was employed from May through to August defending the frontline of the ANZAC beach head (AWM 16th Battalion.) Larkin was wounded in action, receiving a gunshot wound to his shoulder (West Australian Newspaper 31.5.1915) He was invalided to England by Hospital Ship (HS) ‘Dongala’. Larkin was admitted to the 1st Southern General Hospital, Edgebaston 4.6.1915. He was transferred to Birmingham Hospital 8.6.1915. Larkin was assessed as medically unfit for active service and listed for return to Australia with a severe gunshot wound.
Embarked Plymouth per Hospital Ship (HS) ‘Suevic’ for Australia 8.10.1915.
Returned/Disembarked at Fremantle 19.11.1915.
Larkin re enlisted for Home Service with Enrolling Staff 13.9.1916. He resigned to take up a position with Lieutenant Brown 18.10.1916.
Discharged 24.8.1916 from 5th Military District (MD).
Final Rank Private, 16th Infantry Battalion Australian Imperial Force.
Medical Condition Invalided unfit for active service (gunshot wound back and chest)
Awards and Medals 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal.
Notes He was discharged and gave his address as c/-of his brother Cecil Larkins, 7 James St Guildford.WA. His brother, 2nd.Lieut. G.W. Larkins was KIA in 1916 (Daily News 24.8.1916 p4)
