Military History


Godley was transferred to Melbourne for training. He joined the 12th Reinf. 2nd Field Coy AIF. On embarkation he was taken on strength with the 2nd Field Coy Engineers.
Embarked Melbourne per ‘Orvieto’ 21.10.1914 to Suez.

Roll Unit 12th Reinf. Field Coy. Engineers,
Godley disembarked in Egypt with his Unit. He contracted measles and became seriously ill. Godley was admitted to hospital at Heliopolis, Egypt, and died of disease there with complications from measles and pneumonia 18.3.1915. He was buried at the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, in the British Protestant Area, B Section, Grave 177.
Final Rank Sapper 2nd Field Engineers. AIF.
Medical Condition Dec’d, died of disease.

Notes After the death of her husband, Lily Godley (nee Jones) moved in with her parents. Her sister  (Clara Briand and children) later moved in with her at 57 East Street, East Guildford.WA
