Devenish disembarked at Devonport with the 11th Bn. 10.1.1917. He marched in to Durrington to the 3rd Training Battalion. Devenish was admitted to Southall General Hospital with a sore throat 25.1.1917. He was discharged to the No. 2 Com. Depot at Weymouth 12.2.1917. He was admitted sick to hospital 17.2.1917 and diagnosed with rheumatism. He had previously suffered with rheumatic fever and neurasthenia before enlistment. He was declared permanently unfit for military service 9.3.1917 and listed for early return to Australia as an invalid.

Returned/Disembarked Fremantle 24.6.1917.
